Claudia Winkleman illuminates the Fortnum & Mason Christmas Tree at The Royal Exchange
On Wednesday evening, The Royal Exchange, the luxury shopping destination in the heart of the City, celebrated the Christmas season with its sixth annual tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday 21 November.
Guest of honour, Claudia Winkleman, officiated the ceremony by lighting the magnificent 25ft Fortnum & Mason Christmas tree.
Hosted by Oxford Properties, the evening saw more than 250 guests gather at The Royal Exchange to admire the spectacular Fortnum & Mason tree decorated with miniature versions of Fortnum’s famous hampers and hundreds of sparkling ornaments.
Visitors to the City were treated to carolling performances from the outstanding East London Chorus, paired with complimentary mulled wine, hot chocolate and scrumptious minced pies from Fortnum & Mason.
Joining Winkleman to officiate the ceremony was Paul Brundage, Executive Vice President and Senior Managing Director of Europe and Asia Pacific at Oxford Properties and Ewan Venters, CEO of Fortnum & Mason.
During the event Brundage commented, “We are pleased to add a touch of festive cheer to the City and would like to thank Fortnum & Mason for decorating our tree this year. We were delighted to welcome Fortnum & Mason to The Royal Exchange earlier this month and to combine two of London’s most prominent names in retail. In addition, The Royal Exchange is now open on Saturday’s for the first time in its history, allowing us to continue to be where the City converges to meet, eat and shop.”
Venters added, “I am delighted to be here, with Claudia, to deliver Fortnum’s famous merriment to proceedings. The new Fortnum & Mason at The Royal Exchange – which brings our extraordinary food, drink and gifts to the City – is the manifestation of our message that London remains open, and that the world’s most important financial centre remains vibrant.”#
Following the illumination of the tree, The Royal Exchange opened its doors for an exclusive shopping evening featuring special offers, winter wreath making masterclasses from florist Jamie Aston and a luxury hamper giveaway.
The tree lighting ceremony marks the start of the Christmas shopping season at The Royal Exchange. Home to more than 30 luxury boutiques, it is where the City comes together to meet, eat and shop.
