Ever dreamt of neighbouring Buckingham Palace?
If you’ve always harboured dreams of living next to British royalty, here’s the closest you might ever get to having that fantasy fulfilled. A new apartment building, No. 1 Palace Street, sits directly across the street from Buckingham Palace (the official residence of Queen Elizabeth II), offering stunning views of the 42-acre royal gardens. An architecturally impressive and secure 41,000-square-foot island site, the residence is located in the heart of St. James’s Park, in one of London’s most sought-after neighbourhoods.
The 72 state-of-the-art apartments have been created within the grand Grade II listed property which was originally created in 1890 as one of the first landmark hotels, The Palace Hotel, for London and hosted guests of Queen Victoria before the third wing of Buckingham Palace was built. It is the only private residence to offer unhindered views across the 47 acres of the gardens of Buckingham Palace and when it completes in 2020, will provide 10,000-square-foot of facilities—a lifestyle fit for royalty.
Orlando Rodriguez, design director at Northacre, is the man responsible for regenerating the Grade II listed property that sits across the street from Buckingham Palace. “Our brief was to create the most striking apartments in London,” says Rodriguez. The designer and architectural team spent months researching the history of the area and the building.
The original architectural design and interior features have inspired the designs of No. 1 Palace Street, which is coming up next to Buckingham Palace. “We are enhancing and preserving the original features of the building, while creating new spaces with five different architectural styles: French and Italian Renaissance, Beaux-Arts, Queen Anne, and Contemporary,” he adds.
